Informatics, Education and Innovation at the Open University

The Informatics department of the Open University Netherlands organises a symposium on June 7th. Dean of Informatics prof. dr. Lex Bijlsma will pronounce his inaugural oration. For this ceremony, the Open University invites for an afternoon symposium about three of the topics Lex Bijlsma is especially involved in.

Main topics will be threefold:

  • Intelligent feedback from computers. Prof.dr. Johan Jeuring will show the research done at the OU and how computers assist students in their learning about maths or programming skills
  • The Free Technology Academy: towards sustainable development of Open Educational Resources. Wouter Tebbens will highlight the FTA programme and the new challenges posed by the production and usage of openly published free educational materials, such as provided by the FTA
  • The relation between fundamental scientific research and their application. prof.dr.ir. Stef Joosten will show how education is more and more linked to scientific research
  • The location is in the main Open University Campus in Heerlen, in the building 'LEX, the Learning Experience'.
